Hiking and Biking

Hike or bike less than one mile in either direction from the front porch and you’ll find yourself immersed in the Santa Fe National Forest, offering two distinctly different daily outdoor experiences. To the west, cross Bishops Lodge Road and follow a quarter-mile stretch up White Boulder Road, then through a private easement, to reach the forest's well-traveled Ridge Trail. This trail climbs above the valley into a landscape of juniper and piñon, boasting expansive views of the Santa Fe Opera and the Jemez Mountains, with multiple loop options and routes descending toward Big Tesuque Canyon Road or the Winsor Trail. Heading east on Bishops Lodge Road, just 50 yards from the front door, you can reach Big Tesuque Canyon Road and, soon after, the popular Winsor Trail. This trail follows a year-round creek, offering a lush, tall-pine setting with bubbling water sounds year-round. For those seeking a longer adventure, the trail extends all the way to the ski area, where cyclists can enjoy a thrilling 9-mile downhill ride back via connecting trails. Beyond these easy-access hikes, a quick 20-minute drive opens access to the extensive trail systems along Hyde Park Road, broadening the options for outdoor exploration.
